Luis Bernal, RMT
Registered Massage Therapist in downtown Toronto
Luis Bernal completed his studies in CCMH Toronto and became a Registered Massage Therapist certified by the College of Massage Therapy of Ontario (CMTO). He has vast experience in previous disciplines. Luis has Thai Massage Toronto certification from Thai Massage Toronto School in 2008 and more than four years experience working with the Colombian Association of Chinese Medicine in the areas of masotherapy, Tui Na and acupressure techniques.
Luis also has a special interest in lymphatic drainage massage to speed the healing process after injuries, aesthetics, orthopaedics and medical surgeries.
Today, massage therapy is being used as a means of treating painful ailments, decompressing tired and overworked muscles, reducing stress, rehabilitating sports injuries, and promoting general health. This is done by manipulating soft tissue muscles of the body in order to improve circulation and remove waste products from the muscles.
Luis provides you with the ultimate in healing and energetic touch to achieve your holistic well-being through mind and physical balance.
About my Practice
For several years I worked in different management positions, and had experienced the feeling of being in front of a computer for many hours and acquiring bad postural habits that progressed to create imbalances in my body. This typical scenario creates added stress and tension in addition to the already high expectations of today’s world. At the same time the irregularity of physical activity further aggravates sore muscles that only can be relieved with a complementary routine.
Because of the stresses I was experiencing, I decided to start meditation as a way of helping to manage my problems. This led me to find massage therapy as a good way to balance and achieve equilibrium of my energy reserves. I started to study masotherapy just as a hobby but later realized that it became my passion to help people stay young and active.
I started working for an osteopathic and Chinese medical doctor practising the many techniques that masotherapy incorporates. Later, I took some courses in Thai massage in Toronto and finally reached my goal of becoming a Registered Massage Therapist in Ontario after my certification by the CMTO.
Today I am eager to share my skills and offer my clients the best level of massage therapy, well being, and comfort that they all deserve!
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle massage technique that is recognized as a key component of decongestive therapy. It aims to encourage fluid away from the congested area by increasing the activity of the normal lymphatic system. By working through ineffective or obliterated lymph vessels the result is a reduction of inflammation and edema in the body. This treatment is a combination of superficial, gentle and relaxing massage techniques intended to promote the effectiveness of our lymphatic system and the desired effects are increased with specific strokes that target the condition.
What are benefits to manual lymphatic drainage treatment?
- Increased relaxation by reducing anxiety, allowing the body to natural heal.
- Improved healing time, decreasing the time to recovery.
- Increased morale and the mental state of post-surgical clients or post injuries.
Are there contraindications or precautions?
- Malignant disease, including tumour recurrence or metastases
- Acute inflammation (allowing the body to initiate healing stages)
- Acute allergies (MLD can aggravate because it accelerates the lymph flow)
- Acute thrombosis
- Infections/post surgery complications
- Lesions/fresh scars
- Low blood pressure
- Thyroid disorder
Who can benefit from lymphatic drainage?
Pre and post surgery patients, especially the following:
- Transplants (organs)
- Breast cancer

- Gynaecological disorders
- Neurological disorders
- Arthropathy
