About My Massage Practice

In my 25 years as a Registered Massage Therapist it has become clear to me that most of us are struggling to find balance in our busy, hectic, stressful lives.  Toronto is a very fast paced city and it’s easy to get caught up in the rush and to neglect self-care. Anyone who has lived east or west can tell you that living in Toronto is challenging.

Hours fly by sitting at a desk trying to meet deadlines and before you know it the digestive issues, headaches, backaches, and arm pains begin.  If these are ignored they can progress into “Cluster or Tension Headaches”, “Migraines”, “Carpal Tunnel Syndrome” or even “Thoracic Outlet Syndrome”, all fancy terms for a lot of pain related to having a desk job.  Most of us have heard of “Sciatica” which is literally a pain in the butt that travels down the leg; it’s a nerve pain that can be extremely debilitating that is associated with prolonged sitting and a lack of exercise.

Prolonged stress can also affect the quality of your sleep, it can increase or decrease appetite, and it can wreak havoc on your metabolism and mood. These unhealthy outcomes can lead in time to dis-ease. The rising numbers of people suffering from Depression, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Fibromyalgia in Toronto is a good indication of how prolonged stress can impact your health.

Massage Therapy can help prevent these accumulative illnesses by providing the body and mind with much needed down time. Tired contracted muscles are lengthened and your stressed out nervous system can reboot itself. Granted one massage can only do so much but regular massage combined with weekly exercises can have a huge impact on your quality of life and health.

Most employers recognize the importance of employee health and many have benefits that cover massage therapy and yet not everyone who has these benefits makes use of their coverage. Either way, massage therapy is a worthwhile investment into your health.

Give massage a try and see for yourself how different you can feel even in one treatment!
