Seasons Greetings from Zen-tai Wellness Centre!
With the holiday season already upon us, social gatherings are testing our body's limits of indulgence, imbibement, and tolerance.
That being said, here are our Top Five Wellness Tips to surviving the holidays...so there is less work to do in the New Year:
1. Plan to Moderate
Enjoy your indulgent events prepared with a gameplan that involves moderation. Keep your health goals in mind, and have the foresight to plan an enjoyable outing that is not excessive, but can still be enjoyable. Having all-or-nothing mentality often makes us breakdown and indulge to excess if we don't make room for moderate enjoyment. Be reasonable and realistic with your goals. 2. Eat (and drink) Slowly Pacing yourself is key to preventing future discomfort. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to realize how full you are, so chew slowly, enjoy conversation, and take your time. Taste your food and sip your drink. This will ensure you don't pack on pounds, feel overstuffed and suffer from a hangover.
3. Bring Snacks on
Holiday
Shopping Trips Your optimistic one-hour plan to get all your shopping done is guaranteed to take much (much) longer than planned. At the mall, the healthiest options are generally low-quality fast foods. Keep your blood sugars normalized with healthy snacks such as fruit, fresh veggies, and trail mix. This will also help you to shop more efficiently and to prevent stuffing your face with food court garbage when you are grumpy, hypoglycemic and starving.
4. Drink Lots of Water
One of the easiest ways to keep your internal organ systems healthy is to drink plenty of water. Your body needs water to keep your cells hydrated, your stomach full and blood purified. Drink 8-10 glasses of water each day, more with alcohol and caffeine consumption. Monitor your urine colour to ensure it is pale rather than dark yellow.
5. Multivitamin and Fruits & Veggies
Regularly take a good-quality multivitamin to ensure you are getting your basic supply of vitamins and minerals. This will ensure your immune system is supported to function optimally under holiday stress and provide you with increased energy for shopping and socializing. Increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables is an essential means to provide your body with well-absorbed naturally-occurring nutrients.
